Westmount Collegiate Institute offers two streams of dance: Arts Westmount Dance (4 year specialized dance program) and Open dance (offered grade 9-12). Both streams allow students to explore a variety of dance styles, work on creation and developing their artistic voice, learn about the history of dance and the human body.
Dance education nurtures creativity and holistic growth; enhancing physical fitness, emotional expression, and social connection. It provides students with an outlet for self-expression and a powerful way to build social-emotional awareness. No matter the path a student chooses after high school, a dance education provides students with a variety of skills to be successful in life.
Arts Westmount Dance is a specialized dance program that is four years in length and provide students with opportunities to:
- Work with professional guest artists
- Collaborate with other artists within the program and with other disciplines (visual, music, and drama)
- Train in a professional training facility
- Perform at the Vaughan City Playhouse Theatre twice per school year
- Attend field trips to professional performances
- Develop their artistic voice
- Dance Daily
